Wellness exams
The doctor team at Indian Hills Animal Clinic firmly believes in the value of an annual or semi-annual complete physical examination. Whether you have a new puppy, kitten, or an old friend, our goal is to maximize your pet’s health. Our physical exams are scheduled to give our nursing and doctor team a full 30 minutes with every client, thereby ensuring enough time for a thorough exam and discussion of any overall health concerns, questions and laboratory needs.

Pediatric exams
Our pediatric exams not only include a complete physical exam, but also owner education on common puppy and kitten behaviors and temperaments. The doctor team also ensures that your pet’s breed and predilections for behaviors and medical conditions are explained and understood.

Geriatric exams
Advances in veterinary medicine are helping pets live longer and healthier lives. At Indian Hills Animal Clinic, we know the value of twice yearly exams for pets over 7 years of age as well as laboratory diagnostics to help diagnose and treat common ailments that senior pets develop.

Vaccinations
The nurses and doctor will review vaccines with every pet owner to help you make an educated decision as to what specific preventative measures are warranted based on your pet’s particular environment and lifestyle. We vaccinate against the most highly contagious diseases that pets in our state are exposed to. Our doctor team wants what's best for your pets and they have been active in ensuring that pets are over-vaccinated. We were honored to have Dr. Neisius representing the veterinary community on the committee to bring 3-year vaccine requirements to Wichita (instead of every year).

Puppy Socialization & Obedience Training
Our entire staff strives to help each and every pet owner to raise and train a happy, healthy and well adjusted dog. It is our goal to help you properly care for, socialize and train your dog in a positive, non-violent, yet highly effective manner. Our doctor team works closely with two behaviorists in Wichita to help with significant behavior problems.

Radiology
Indian Hills Animal Clinic is one of the elite veterinary hospitals in the area with the ability to acquire digital radiographs. Digital radiology is one of the most recent advances in the veterinary industry and allows our team to take high quality x-rays in a brief amount of time. We also work closely with two Board Certified Veterinary Radiologists for specialty consultations and with Dr. Todd Henrikson at Tallgrass Veterinary Imaging to provide ultrasound (sonogram) imaging. This team approach gives us the ability to provide advanced diagnostics for your pet.

Anesthesia
We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide that extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high risk patients. Preanesthetic bloodwork is a requirement on all patients in order to determine the safest anesthesia for each individual pet and IV fluids are given to all patients, regardless of how long or short the scheduled procedure will be. The exact anesthesia selected for use during surgery is determined by the doctor based on bloodwork, age, physical condition of the pet and the type of surgery. Using the most modern equipment, our anesthetic nurses monitor your pet’s vital signs during all anesthetic procedures. Our trained anesthesia nurses follow your pet from premedication, into surgery, and through recovery. Your pet is not left alone until they are fully awake and at a safe body temperature.

Surgery
Indian Hills Animal Clinic has a full scale surgery suite including the most advanced anesthesia monitoring equipment, an electrocautery unit, and strict standards to maintain sterile conditions. Every pet receives a pre-anesthesia exam by our doctors. During this examination, the medical team records each pet’s vital signs, our doctors check for any medical abnormalities and identify any additional concerns prior to surgery. Our doctors perform routine procedures such as spays and neuters, to more complicated splenectomies, gastropexy's, cystotomies, gastrotomies, and enterotomies. We also work closely with a board certified veterinary surgeon in town to refer the more complicated orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures.

Dentistry
Oral health is very important to the well-being of our companion pets. Bacteria found in plaque can affect other organs in the body including the liver, kidneys, and heart. Untreated dental disease leads to loss of the bone surrounding the teeth, abscesses, tooth loss and chronic pain. The doctors and staff at Indian Hills Animal Clinic are dedicated to helping you keep your pet's teeth healthy. We strongly believe in preventative dental care - this means teeth cleaning before the gums become diseased. We provide a wide array of dental services including cleaning, polishing, digital dental radiography (x-rays), simple and surgical extractions, and treatment of periodontal disease.

Pain management
Indian Hills Animal Clinic will provide the most effective pain control for all patients that are living with chronic pain or those that have just undergone surgery. Our pets are “wired” to innately mask or hide their pain, yet they feel and suffer in the same way as we would. Because of this uniqueness, we believe that pain control is not optional. We address the best methods for each individual patient to keep them at an optimal comfort level, whether it be oral management, epidurals or constant rate infusions.

Laser Therapy
Indian Hills Animal Clinic is thrilled to offer the latest treatment option available for non-medication pain relief in both dogs and cats. Using our Class IV Therapeutic Laser, we use infrared light over any anatomical area to improve soft tissue healing and provide relief for both sudden onset and chronic pain. Our laser enables us to provide pain relief for many conditions including: Arthritis, Intervertebral Disc Disease, Dermatitis, Post-Surgical Pain, Degenerative Joint Disease, Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, Lick Granulomas, Ear infections, and Open Wounds.

Internal Medicine
The veterinarians at Indian Hills Animal Clinic take pride in the challenges of many internal medicine cases. We work extremely hard gathering as much evidence as possible to fully diagnose and treat your pet should the need arise. We have a close working relationship with internists at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine as well as internists in the Kansas City area for consultations, information on the latest treatments and trends, and referral if necessary. Our doctors also maintain a close relationship with you and your pet during and long after treatment to ensure that all your pets’ needs are met and they maintain a healthy, good quality of life.

Hospitalization
Indian Hills Animal Clinic has complete facilities for hospitalization of any sick or debilitated animals. Hospitalization of patients allows for constant monitoring, proper delivery of medication, fluid administration (if needed), ICU type treatment and loving TLC. Patients that are hospitalized will receive a full physical exam at least once daily by the veterinarian and hourly checks by the nurses. Our trained nursing team can also provide overnight monitoring of patients that require additional attention or for those where transportation to the emergency clinic is risky or difficult.

Isolation
Indian Hills Animal Clinic also offers an isolation ward to maintain and treat highly contagious diseases. We maintain strict standards of hygiene to prevent the spread of disease from patient to patient as well as from patient to human.

Dermatology
The doctors at Indian Hills Animal Clinic offer full dermatology work-ups including impression smears, skin scrapings, fungal cultures and biopsies. We work with clients to diagnose skin conditions and offer the best treatment regimen necessary for their pet. For pets with significant allergy concerns, we offer serum allergy testing and routine allergen injections to keep the immune system’s response to a minimum around certain allergens.

Laboratory
Our extensive in-house laboratory provides information that is critical to your sick or injured pet. Due to our modern in-house diagnostic equipment, animals can receive appropriate treatment immediately after arriving at the hospital. Our arsenal of in-house laboratory equipment allows our doctors to evaluate serum chemistry panels, electrolytes, blood gas, hematology (CBC’s), urinalysis, parasite testing, diabetes screening & management, as well as serology testing for heartworms, feline leukemia, FIV, pancreatitis, and parvovirus. We also have the ability to test for coagulation concerns in the case of serious, life-threatening bleeding disorders. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.

ECG & Blood Pressure
We possess the ability to do on-site non-invasive and doppler blood pressure readings as well as ECG's using a 6-lead ECG machine to ensure the electrical activity of your pet's heart is functioning properly. We work closely with a board-certified veterinary cardiologist should the need arise to refer for a full cardiac work-up.

Ophthalmology
Indian Hills Animal Clinic has the diagnostic capability to detect serious eye conditions, such as corneal ulcers, glaucoma, and other retinal diseases, by measuring tear production, staining the eye to ensure cornea health and measuring eye pressures with our state of the art Tonopen. Our doctors have been trained to treat even the most difficult non-healing ulcers with the use of a grid keratotomy and conjunctival grafts.

Pharmacy
We possess a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, shampoos, heartworm prevention and flea prevention to meet the needs of your pet. We also stock a variety of prescription diets (Hills, Purina and Royal Canin Veterinary Diets) for the dietary needs of your pet or special order foods as requested by the veterinarian at no additional cost. We work closely with local and regional compounding pharmacies that are able to formulate a variety of medications for pets with unique medicinal needs.

When your pet is low on medications, we ask that you give our staff 24 hours notice before your prescription is needed. This gives our nursing team the opportunity to review the records, confirm with the doctor and fill the prescription.

Permanent Identification
Because your pet is such an important member of your family, Indian Hills Animal Clinic offers microchipping as a form of permanent identification. Every year we see how this simple, “one-time-event” procedure returns lost animals to their owners and saves the lives of many. A small microchip is implanted under the skin, usually in the scruff area, with a hypodermic needle. The microchip number is unique to your pet and can be registered nationwide.

Dietary Counseling
All members of our team are educated to provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance. Our complete line of Hills Science Diet dog and cat foods allow the appropriate food to be chosen for each individual animal.

Emergency Medicine
Indian Hills Animal Clinic is available for emergencies during business hours should they be necessary. All emergency patients receive immediate attention from our trained nursing team to help triage the situation. After hours emergencies are referred to the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita at 727 S. Washington (262-5321).
